DAILY LOGS

DATE: 5/13/19

HOURS: 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. (8 HOURS)

Today was the first day of my internship and the first time editing a wedding.  I was really excited to be doing something new.  I got there and Cory, who was training me, gave me my very first wedding to edit- May11_Stacey.  I started with the montages and finished the pre-ceremony one and had started the cocktail montage before I was done for the day.

DATE: 5/14/19

HOURS: 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. (8 HOURS)

Today, I continued to work on May11_Stacey.  I finished the cocktail montage and during my interview, Fred had told me that I would just start by doing the montages until I was ready to start the ceremony, but Cory said it would just be easier to do all of the sections in order.  So, Cory taught me how to edit the ceremony and the exit shot that they did at the end of the ceremony.  He also showed me how to edit the sound and color for the videos.

DATE: 5/14/19

HOURS: 8 A.M. - 5 P.M. (9 HOURS)

Today, i started to learn how to edit the reception for May11_Stacey, but I didn't finish it because Cory had to leave early so he gave me another one to work on- May4_Erin.  While I was there, Lori and Fred had taught me how to use the cameras and set up the light stands that I would be using at the wedding I would be working on Saturday.  I finished the pre-ceremony and cocktail montages and I started the reception on the video until I left.

DATE: 5/18/19

HOURS: 10:30 A.M. - 10:30 P.M. (12 HOURS)

Today was my very first wedding!  I had to meet Lori at the office so we could ride together to the wedding.  I was really nervous because I had never shot any photos at a wedding before, and to be honest, I have never professionally shot a camera before.  Lori was really helpful and helped me set my ISO and shutter speed and she told me to go practice shooting in the church while she took pictures of the girls getting ready.  Lori then told me to go take pictures of the guys getting ready, just candid shots of them.  Lori took pictures during the ceremony and after it was over I helped her with the order of the family pictures and then we went to take pictures of the bridal party at University of Pitt Greensburg.  I really just stood next to her while she shot the pictures and carried the camera bag for her.  We left there and went to where the reception was and then I helped Lori set up the lights for the intros and waited for dinner to be over.  The main thing I took pictures of were "grab and grins", which are just pictures I take of people at the tables just so the bride and groom get pictures of their guest.  After all the main events were done, Lori and I left.  It was a really long day.

DATE: 5/20/19

HOURS: 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. (8 HOURS)

COMM 493: 1 HOUR

I continued to work on the reception for May11_Stacey while Cory was there and finished it.  Cory showed me how to put all of the sequences together and in order and put the chapter markers in.  He even showed me how he makes the DVDs and where the chapter markers go in the video, even though I won't really be doing that.  I then continued to work on May4_Erin and finished both the reception and ceremony.

DATE: 5/21/19

HOURS: 8 A.M. - 5 P.M. (9 HOURS)

I started editing a new wedding today- May11_Jordan.  Cory told me it would be easiest to just cut all of the clips in order instead of cutting the pre-ceremony and editing it and so on.  I finished cutting all of the sections and I just need to put the montages together, fix the color and audio, and add the music.

DATE: 5/25/19

HOURS: 10 A.M. - 11:30 P.M. (13.5 HOURS)

Today was the first time I got to work with Fred at a wedding.  The wedding was in Hidden Valley, so it was a pretty long drive.  When we got there, I helped Fred fix the dress to take pictures of it and just took candids of the girls getting ready.  The wedding was supposed to be outside, but it was raining pretty bad so they decided to have the wedding inside.  After the ceremony was over, it wasn't raining anymore so we took the bridal party to a small waterfall and took pictures there.  I mainly helped Fred by fixing the train of the dress and make sure it wasn't dragging on the ground.  When we came back I helped Fred set up the family photos.  After dinner, I started taking grab and grins, but I had to stretch them out because there were very few guests.  At the end of the night, the bride and groom did a glow-stick send off.  After that, Fred and I packed up and drove back to the office.

DATE: 5/27/19

HOURS: 9 A.M. - 5 P.M. (8 HOURS)

COMM 493: 2 HOURS

Today I finished editing May11_Jordan together and started on May25_Erin.  This was a different type of wedding because Cory shot this one on different cameras and some clips were in 4K and in slow motion.  Cory showed me how to put all of these clips and folders and how to organize them.  I started by just cutting the clips for the pre-ceremony and then I left for the day.

DATE: 5/28/19

HOURS: 8 A.M. - 5 P.M. (9 HOURS)

COMM 493: 1 HOUR

I continued working on May25_Erin.  I really like working with the DSLR clips while editing because they just look so much nicer than the regular camera clips.  Today I finished cutting the clips up to the reception.

DATE: 6/1/19

HOURS: 10 A.M. - 11 P.M. (13 HOURS)

Today I got to assist Lori at a wedding in Indiana.  It was weird being there while not being in school.  The girls were getting ready in the hotel right on campus and they were all really nice.  I helped Lori set up the dress to take pictures of it and then she went to go take pictures of the guys and I stayed to take candid pictures of the girls and pictures of some details that the bride had.  After that we went to the ceremony and reception site.  The ceremony was outside, which was my first outdoor wedding.  I helped Lori by taking pictures of the guests walking in to sit down at the ceremony and then after the ceremony I helped Lori do family pictures at the alter by calling out the names of the people who were up to take pictures.  We then took the bride and groom around the golf course to take solo pictures.  When we got back to the reception are, we set up Lori's lights for the intros and then we had dinner.  After, I took my grab and grins at the tables and outside and after all of the main events were over we drove back to Lori's house and I drove home from there.

DATE: 6/3/19

HOURS: 8:30 A.M. - 5 P.M. (8.5 HOURS)

I continued editing May25_Erin and cut all of the clips.  I fished the pre-ceremony montage and started editing the photoshoot montage.  This was my first time editing a photoshoot montage and there were a lot of clips I had to go through.  This wedding has been the longest one I've been working on so far because there were a lot of clips to go through.  I am almost done with the photoshoot montage before I left for the day.

DATE: 6/4/19

HOURS: 8 A.M. - 5 P.M. (9 HOURS)

COMM 493: 2 HOURS

Again, I continued working on May25_Erin.  I finished the photoshoot montage and the cocktail montage.  I then worked on the ceremony and made sure to fix the coloring and audio of the speakers and the priest.  I had to make sure to pay attention to the reception because the audio sounded weird, and Cory showed me how to fix it.  I also had to create other little montages throughout the reception because the bride and groom had a painter there painting a picture of them and I also had to edit together some clips of them listening to a video that they projected onto the wall for their guests to watch.  I finished editing the wedding and started on May25_Renee.  I started cutting some of the clips and then I went home.

DATE: 6/8/19

HOURS: 10 A.M. - 11:30 P.M. (13.5 HOURS)

Today, I got to assist Lori at another wedding and actually got to see how Cory films the weddings.  This wedding was at Hidden Valley and they got to have the ceremony outside this time.  I helped Lori take pictures of the extras that the bride wanted and take pictures of the dress.  While Lori went to take pictures of the guys I stayed with the girls to take candids of them.  We then went outside to take pictures of the ceremony site and I took pictures of the guests coming in.  It was really hot and sunny that day and we all got sunburnt.  After the ceremony, the bride and groom had a receiving line and I helped Lori by taking pictures of guests hugging the bride and groom.  After, we did family pictures at the alter and I helped Lori again by saying who was up to take pictures with the bride and groom.  After, we took the bridal party to take solo shots and then I helped Lori with taking pictures of the bride and groom and fixed the train of her dress when she moved.  After we were done with the pictures, we went to the reception room and took pictures of the small details and I helped Lori by taking pictures while they were doing their intros.  After dinner, I did grab and grins and took pictures of guests when they were doing the money dance.  After all of the events we left.

HOURS: 8 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. (8.5 HOURS)

COMM 493: 1 HOUR

Today I continued editing May25_Renee.  Again, I started by just going in order of the clips.  I cut all of the clips up to the reception and ended at the cake cutting.  Just a normal day today.

DATE: 6/11/19

HOURS: 8:30 A.M. - 5 P.M. (8.5 HOURS)

I continued working on May25_Renee and finished cutting the clips for the reception.  I finished the pre-ceremony and cocktail montages.  I decided to skip over the ceremony for this one and did the reception first.  While listening to the clips and watching them, I realized that I needed to pay attention to the coloring and audio when I actually started editing the clips together.  I finished off with the bride's dad's speech before I went home for the day.

DATE: 6/18/19

HOURS: 8 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. (8.5 HOURS)

COMM 493: 2 HOURS

This morning, Cory and I went over May25_Renee so he could show me his process of how he checks over the videos I've edited.  It made me realize that I have to pay attention to the little details, like small camera movements and coloring.  After we finished going over the video, I continued working on June8_Stephanie.  I finished cutting the pre-ceremony, ceremony, photoshoot, and cocktail hour and started the reception before leaving for the day.

DATE: 6/19/19

HOURS: 8 A.M. - 5 P.M. (9 HOURS)

COMM 493: 1 HOUR

Today I finished cutting up the clips for the reception.  I started by editing the montages first, because I find that it's easier to get those out of the way first because they don't take as long as the ceremony and reception.  After I finished all of the montages I did the reception and I started the reception before I left.

Today I finished up the reception for June8_Stephanie and put all of the sequences together.  I made sure to go through every part to see if I missed any coloring, audio mess ups, or small camera movements.  After I finished going through it, me and Cory figured out how to save a title template so I wouldn't have to keep making a new one every time I finished a video.  I then started editing a new wedding- June22_Katie.  I cut the clips for the pre-ceremony, family pictures, and the cocktail hour.  I started going through the ceremony before I left.

COMM 493: 2 HOURS

Today, I finished editing the video together for June22_Katie and put all of the sequences together and added the title card at the end.  I then started on June22_Adam.  This is a different video to do because it is really short because they just got a basic package so I knew this wedding wasn't going to take me long to edit.  This video only started at the ceremony, so before I left, I left off at editing the vows.

DATE: 7/20/19

HOURS: 10 A.M. - 11 P.M. (13 HOURS)

I had a wedding today with Fred in Dawson, PA.  It was so hot outside and the ceremony was outdoors and the reception was in a tent outside.  When we got there, I helped Fred take some pictures of the girls getting ready and helped him set up the bridesmaids dresses so he could get a picture of them.  We then went down to the reception area and I helped him by setting up details that the bride wanted photos of.  We then went to where the ceremony was going to be; it was at a mansion that was on the golf course.  Fred wanted me to wait for the guys to arrive so I could get pictures of them getting ready while he got pictures of the bride putting on her dress, but the guys never really showed up in time for me to get pictures of them.  When the guys finally arrived all together Fred went and took pictures of them and I went upstairs to continue taking candids of the bride and her family and friends.  During the ceremony, I helped Fred by taking pictures of the bridal party walking down the aisle.  At the reception, I helped Fred set up the flashes for the first dances and cake cutting and then after dinner I started doing my usual grab and grins.  By the end of the night, Fred told me to finish up taking pictures of them on the dance floor while he packed up.

Today I started a new wedding- July20_Autumn.  This wedding is just a basic video so there were not many clips to go through.  With a basic there is not very many pre-ceremony clips, so there were only a few before I started cutting the clips for the ceremony.  I got through all the clips up to the money dance during the reception before I left for the day.

I continued to edit July20_Autumn today.  I picked up where I left off during the money dance and continued cutting the clips for the rest of the wedding.  Again, I started with doing the montages, and they weren't that long because this was just a basic video.  I then edited the ceremony, which was pretty short, and did the reception.  I made sure to go through and color all of the clips and stabilize them.

Today I started cutting through clips of a new wedding- Aug3_Jessica.  Cory used the DSLR camera for this wedding which is my favorite to edit because the clips always look really nice.  Cory helped me again to sort through all the clips to makes sure they're all at the right frame rate because he films some in slow-motion and it has been awhile since I have done a DLSR video.  I went through all of the pre-ceremony clips and some cocktail clips, but there were so many clips that I didn't get through very much of the ceremony before I was done for the day.
